I know Mrs. Clemenza was happy with him when he got home. I know he’s a gangster and all that but I loved the little kissy thing they did when he was getting in the car.
Greetings and Salutations, My Summer Lovelies on WEDNESDAY JUNE 17TH, and after a hectic morning we are just going to get straight to the point … It’s NATIONAL APPLE
STRUDEL DAY, so grab yourself a generous portion to meet those daily fruit & vegetable requirements.
Me … I have no apple strudel
in my home, but there is a generous portion of Dutch Apple Pie leftover from Monday’s baking adventure, so I’m diving in as I type, and watching General Hospital … I’M MULTITASKING …Later, babes!
And that Willow … She is one nasty, lying little biatch!
What, My Lovelies, do you suppose we might do on a THURSDAY JUNE 18TH, INTERNATIONAL PICNIC DAY? Plain or fancy, simple or elegant, or maybe just a quick run to the deli? Your picnic, your choice, let’s get rollin’ … If the weather’s not cooperating, just bring it indoors … Mangiare, Bambinas & Bambinos !
I’m a day late, but yesterday was a day I needed to celebrate…it gave me renewed hope. I’ll leave it there.
I watched a fifteen minute video on YouTube highlighting “Ten Famous Foods Illinois Invented.” The Rainbow Cone was among them, but I gotta tell ya’ the “Chicago Thin Crust Tavern Style Pizza” was calling my name. (Actually, screaming & shouting.) Sounds very reminiscent of the pizza served at Luigi’s Bar & Grill in Little Italy when I was kid.
Oh, cool! Which Little Italy?
Yes, thin crust pizza is definitely a staple. Each part of the city and/or neighborhood has its favorite places. I see deep dish as more of a rare treat. I really like it but it’s filling!
PS - I have enough Buona Beef points for a pint of rainbow ice cream! ![]()

My Mom’s family, along with most of the relatives, came over from Calabria to Pennsylvania, and settled along the Lake Erie Shoreline, and southward toward Brookville Pa. Little Italy was located between Huron Street and West 18th Street. Eventually, many ended up moving and the cousins are scattered across the United States. No matter which direction you’re headed for, you’re sure to run into a cousin. Sadly, life happens, and the grandparents, aunts, uncles, and many cousins have passed on. We miss them like crazy, but our hearts are overflowing with love and sweet memories.
I’m not Italian but I’ve always loved Italian food. My favorite was the hot sausage pizza served at Campiti’s back in my hometown. Never tasted any other pizza exactly like it, anywhere: wonderful thin crust, homemade sauce, shredded provolone in addition to mozzarella, and they crumbled the hot sausage and sautéed it before putting a thick layer on top. The sautée-ing gave the meat a tasty smoky flavor.
I must have had hundreds of those pizzas over the 54 years my family and I ate at Campiti’s. After I moved cross country, every time I came back home I’d call Campiti’s from the airport, order the sausage pizza, then pick it up before driving to my mother’s.
Two years ago, the restaurant’s owner retired and sold the business. I cried when I heard the news: so many happy memories associated with that place. I’ve heard from my hometown friends that the new owner has his own recipes and they don’t stand up to the old ones. I’m still sad about losing one of my favorite places. And I still know their phone number by heart.

Greetings, My Lovelies, on this semi lovely summer day of TUESDAY JUNE 23RD! While someone, somewhere was struggling with major life choices, trying to decide if her bikini bottom and top should match, or what water bottle to sip from, I was toiling away in the
garden, and then hitting the
keyboard doing some damage celebrating
PRIME DAY$ ! And now, my sweets, it’s lunchtime, and I shall choose something appropriate on NATIONAL DETROIT PIZZA DAY … care to join me?

Ooh, I’m in for both items!
Ooooh, even as a certified lifelong Chicagoan and Chicago style pizza lover, I also LOVE Detroit style pizza. The one they sell at CostCo is IMO very, very good especially considering it starts out as a frozen pizza. The browned cheese on the sides is tasty.
We have frequently purchased a surprisingly good Detroit Style Pizza at our neighborhood Little Caesar’s.
When I was a kid, we would eat at Buddy’s Pizza (6 Mile & Conant) sometimes on Sundays. They had the best “Detroit style “ pizza! And bocce ball out back for the grandpa’s.
That’s the brand that CostCo carries! Couldn’t think of the name.
