🐾 Paws and Remember

I sure will. It should be ready after Monday’s filming and I will post it. Thanks for the encouragement.

@JustPlainNutz your pic of the kitties in the wrestling ring reminded me to post here.

I just adopted two kittens from the animal shelter on Friday ! My last beloved senior kitty went over the Rainbow Bridge in February. I haven’t had kittens or even just a young cat in a long time.

Meet Joey and Jack ! They are two months old and brothers from a litter of seven. They love running around, wrestling, chasing each other’s tail, chasing their own tail and finally napping. They are so tiny. Probably a xxxxxxxxx teeny tiny in QVC sizing.

May I brag a little on my sweet chiweenie boy Jett? Three days ago he saved me from what could have been a real crisis.

It was 8 a.m. and the temperature outside was already over 100 degrees. I was trying to drag my uber-full trash bins out to the street for pickup when my ankle rolled over, I lost my balance and fell into a pile of rocks and cactus in my front yard. Wrenched my hip and knee and couldn’t get up.

I hoped that one of my neighbors would soon be walking their dog or leaving for work, but after about a half hour there was still not a soul around and I was getting scared. I started crying for help. Jett was in the back yard, but he heard me yelping in pain so he went to the side of the yard where I have a next door neighbor (the house on the other side is vacant) and began to bark frantically until my neighbor came out to see what the commotion was about. Then my neighbor was right there, picking me off the ground.

Thank God for my wonderful neighbor and also for little hero Jett, who was smart enough to know I was in trouble and went to the side of the yard where his barks would be heard. I’m OK, no serious injuries but pretty banged up. Without them, though, I might have lain out there in the climbing heat for hours. I’m so lucky!

And Jett got a ribeye steak for dinner that night.

Such a special dog. I’m glad you’re ok. This is one of my fears when I take my dumpster down, usually at night. I live alone and have mobility issues. I’ve started taking my cell phone with me just in case.

My situation is much the same. Just in case I’m not so lucky next time (if there is one), from HSN I just ordered a pendant with an emergency button that dials straight to your nearest 911 operator. You buy only the pendant - no monthly charges for service access.

   Meet the newest member of our homeless shelter/ cooling station in our garage. This cutie has been showing up for the past few days, and is already familiar with the location of the dining and sleeping areas. She’s actually the size of a 2-3 month old kitten, and is a real beauty. It’s 92°F right now, and we’re glad to have her with us. Fortunately, in all of the years we’ve taken care of the neighborhood strays, everyone gets along well, but then, of course, they’re all members of the same clan.

I so appreciate you and everyone who takes care of these critters. They really do need the help and they appreciate it too.

My friends frequently foster cats, seems their specialty is rescued pregnant cats - they have their litters at their home and then my friends help mom get the kittens grown up and healthy, and all ready for adoption including the mom (who they of course spay first once she is ready for that).

I love tuxies! I have one myself. See above, it was exactly that - a pregnant young silver tabby fostered by my friends, cat had 4 kittens and I adopted one of them. Chillest mom ever.

They had another one who kept putting her kittens in a drawer and closing it LOL - they tried to get her to stop doing that, to the point of putting a bunch of heavy cans of cat food in her preferred drawer… you guessed it, she still opened it, dropped the babies in and closed it up. They’re such a hoot.

   Miss Olivia Twist is celebrating birthday #2 today! She was one of our backyard strays that we brought indoors during a winter snowstorm. She was approximately five months old, and such a petite young thing who cried loud enough to capture our attention. How could we not shelter this helpless, hungry little creature?

 It didn’t take long to realize that we actually adopted the neighborhood enforcer who can’t sit still for more than five minutes, and never met a food group that she didn’t like. Life has never been quite the same!

As I was opening the door to get a Chewy package, a black cat came out of nowhere and started purring like he knew the package contained cat food! We have outdoor cats in this neighborhood, but this one doesn’t have a collar and has a small laceration (looks mostly healed) so I think he’s a stray. He ate treats right out of my hand, I fed him and put water out. Now he’s laying comfortably on the front porch. He keeps trying to come inside but I’m worried because our smallest cat is a tough cookie. She seems interested though and hasn’t been hissing…

(I don’t know if it’s a male or female, just saying he for now!)

We currently have 3 cats. I swore I wouldn’t get another after losing one at 4yo to a genetic condition in 2019. But then a relative went to hospice and we adopted her cat, he’s 16yo and still loving life! What’s another at this point? I’m vacuuming almost daily as it is, why not make it hourly?

And why is it always a black cat? The one we lost was black, our scrappy little girl is black (found her abandoned as a kitten) and now this sweet new cat is black! I do wear a lot of black and have been accused of being goth…
