🐾 Paws and Remember

@SuperElevated , Bertie looks like such a sweetie! I’ve always been partial to tabbies (and have two of them!). What a wonderful gift for both you and Bertie.

@SuperElevated. She’s cute. Yes she’ll cost you but she’ll be worth every cent in what she’ll give you.

:grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing: … It was -1°F when I woke up this morning. Please remember to take care of those stray kitties, bring them indoors if you possibly can, fix a warm corner in your garage, anything you can do. Don’t forget to check on elderly neighbors. It’s a good day for snuggling indoors … Please stay warm & safe!

I went to read it. Oh my goodness, I was right there with her in that room, maybe because I have had to do this twice in two years, the latest last August. If you’re interested… Carolyn Gracie

My Bertie is getting spayed today and I’m a wreck. It’s been 20 years since I’ve done this and I don’t remember much about what we dealt with when they got home. There was two of us then, and now it’s just me, and I’m I’m scared to death about what to expect. I’m worried she’s gonna hurt herself, I know I’m ā€˜borrowing trouble’ as my mother would say.
I put fresh cat litter boxes out, I cleaned her automatic water fountain and her automatic feeder… I’m just, she’s so wild that I’m worried she will continue to be wild and hurt herself. I had it done through a tnr organization so it’s in and out, dropped her off this morning at 7:45 and I’m picking her up here in another 20 minutes. I’m a wreck, and this isn’t like me. I’ve done nothing but care for sick and wounded for the last decade of my life and now all of a sudden I’m falling apart over it.
It’ll be fine. I’ll be fine.

@SuperElevated
She will be ok and you are doing the right thing by having her spayed and you will be fine.
Thank you for taking care of the kitties.

:four_leaf_clover: :four_leaf_clover: :four_leaf_clover: It’s okay to worry … That’s what we do when we love. Like so many ā€œhumanā€ medical procedures, pet surgery has also evolved, techniques are improved and streamlined, and recovery time is far shorter. When you bring that sweet thing home, she will most likely be inclined rest and relax, and possibly nap a bit more than usual. On the other hand, if she’s anything like my Ms. Olivia Twist, you won’t even know that she was anywhere near the Wellness Center, let alone had surgery! You and Bertie relax, have fun, and enjoy each other! :innocent:

Oh I’m sorry I should have updated! She came through with flying colors, she’s doing fine, she refuses to recuperate. She just wants to play play play lol. She’s licking a little more than I would like, but I realize it’s itchy where they shaved her. I tried to put a Kitty onesie on her and that was unacceptable to her, so I’m just going to monitor it and make sure she doesn’t do something silly, but thank you for asking! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts::smiling_cat_with_heart_eyes:

As I suspected, she was in heat, so upwards of 90 more days of crying until the hormones dissipate..

@SuperElevated I’m so glad your baby came through it just fine. Every time our pets go through a procedure, I wish the vet could give us something for our nerves!

I was talked into getting another rescue as a buddy for my older rescue. They all said he needed a friend. So, the woman who runs the doggy day care is also the President of the Humane Society, and she picked out a puppy for me. What the heck am I doing with puppy??? Memories come flooding back of chewing, teething, and bladders the size of a walnut. She is calming down a bit, but the problem is with the older dog she was supposed to be friends with. She absolutely adores him and wants nothing more than to play with him 24 hours a day. He has gotten more tolerant and does play with her, but then he wants to rest. So, she is a handful. BUT, I was just asked if she could star in the video for the rescue group since she is such a character. I said, of course.

They ordered a tutu for her to wear, although she is NOT a tutu girl. She will probably eat it before the first shot, so I am sending along some tee shirts, as well. If I can post the video next week, I will.

One interesting thing about her is that she is the first dog I have had who actually watches TV. She came in my room, saw The Lion King on the TV, sat down and watched it. I couldn’t believe it. When Simba and Mufasa were talking, her tail started wagging, and when they were walking, she started barking and jumping up and down - I think she wanted to play with Simba! She also thinks she is a cat. Where she goes for daycare they foster cats and she identified with the tiny kittens. She has a boyfriend named Howard and the two of them stroll around the yard every day like an old married couple. Howard is a cat.

She has a vet appointment tomorrow because I think she has pica - where she eats things like rocks and weeds and twigs. Pretty much anything that is not tied down. I hope she is not sick. Does anyone have experience with that? She is a dachshund mix puppy. I understand dachshunds do weird things like digging, which she does, so I hope she is ok. I know this is the section for memories, but I see some posts about new pets, so I just added this one. I hope it is OK.

@RetiredAtLast … Anything pet related is totally approved and encouraged!

Mr. CrankyPants has his very own special form of pica … he loves to lick Berkshire blankets and sheets, actually any brand that is super soft and velvety. This also includes my leisure pants and tops, bathrobes, even the Christmas tree skirt. It really grossed me out in the beginning, but I’ve learned to live with it. He’s headed for his thirteenth birthday, too late to return! At his age, I’m grateful that he’s continent!

What a handsome boy - he looks very youthful for a 13 year old cat.

@RetiredAtLast can’t wait to see a picture of this little character. She sounds like a ball of energy and love, and a total cutie pie!
