This story is so much on my mind. Imagine you’re in the golden twilight years and something horrific like this happens?? Savanna and her siblings lost their dad so young and now this.
@UglyBetty did you ever find out who was casing your house? That’s utterly frightening.
No, but it happened to several neighbors and the HOA sent a notice to keep porch lights on at night. I’m not too concerned, the guy seemed as dumb as the Home Alone burglars.
On that note… Catherine O’Hara’s death really hurts. Gone much too soon.
I just know she and John Candy are having a hilarious reunion! I can’t think of their scenes in Home Alone without laughing. I’ve avoided watching his documentary, afraid I may get emotional. Knowing she’s in it, I will definitely get emotional.
She married once and seemed to have a great family life, a rare thing in Hollywood.
I watched “Best In Show” again last night. She was so funny in that movie. She really had some talent. That was a great group of actors.
I’m watching Best In Show too. Catherine O’Hara’s character Cookie Fleck from Florida is hilarious. Catherine was a beautiful lady.
@UglyBetty that’s somewhat of a relief. Still unsettling that there’s creeps and weirdos out there .
Speaking of Catherine and John… I had a very strange thing happen on facebook years ago. This person who I’d never heard of friended me. He didn’t have all that many facebook friends but we had one mutual. His name was Juul Haalmeyer. He was the costume designer for SCTV and appeared on some of the shows with the “Juul Haalmeyer Dancers.” He did all the Lola Heatherton costumes for Catherine. We never met in person but stayed in touch via facebook. Just an awesome guy. He knew Catherine and John personally of course so he had an interesting perspective on them. They were absolutely great people. Unfortunately Juul passed from cancer not that long ago so I guess the three of them are back together in the great beyond.
I’ve read things here and there about John Candy. I’m convinced that there is not one negative word you can find about that man, anywhere. One thing that stuck with me was a story of John arranging for coffee and breakfast every day for the crew of one of the movies he did, when he found out the studio or whomever wasn’t taking proper care of them in his estimation.
P.S. - I’m glad that turned out to be nothing with that person. Stay safe out there!
I just love this! He was always taking care of people. The night before he died, he made a big spaghetti dinner for everyone working on his film.
We need more John Candys in this world. ![]()
That’s awesome!

I was reading the latest update about the Guthrie abduction. Hard to believe that it seems like no real progress has been made in 17 days. The family must be devastated. I don’t understand why whoever took her wouldn’t at least let them know where she is.They’ve agreed to pay a substantial ransom.
My gut instinct tells me that whoever took her is in panic mode, afraid that someone will see him/her/them if they make a move, like a rat trapped in a corner. I’m thinking they might sneak out in the middle of the night and dump her on the side of the road, hoping that someone will find her in time. Not good …
I was also surprised to hear that several thin vinyl/plastic gloves were recently recovered in the area, and most of those gloves turned out to be carelessly discarded gloves from police and detectives searching the area. Good heavens, those gloves should have been placed in a bag or container after use, not thrown along the roadside. Who’s actually running this show?
I read that about the discarded gloves too. Is that typical procedure for investigators ? Makes no sense.
According to Mr. Nutz, who has had a lifetime career in law enforcement & criminal investigation, tossing those gloves out was not a smart move as those participating in the investigation may or may not have touched something that might possibly yield valuable information without even realizing it at the time. He sarcastically said that the parties should first be ticketed for littering, then be relieved of their duties temporarily or permanently, depending on the info those gloves may provide.
If there is an arrest on who perpetrated this crime their defense attorney will have a field day with all the mistakes law enforcement has made.
If I paid taxes in that city/county, I’d be demanding a refund! Such an obscene display of ineptitude. May as well abolish the whole department and let the internet sleuths take over. What a joke!
Clearly the sheriff is overwhelmed with this crime and all it entails. What I don’t understand is why Savannah Guthrie didn’t just hire a team on her own? She surely has connections or knows people who have them. And money is definitely not an issue for her.
I’m sure she did, probably better to keep quiet. These police couldn’t be trusted with a lemonade stand robbery.
It certainly is a contrast to the job that law enforcement officials were able to do in Moscow, Idaho to solve the murder of those 4 college students. Moscow is only around 25,000 people, so I’m sure it is a small police force .
All I can think of is Savannah. Her last post was devastating; she’s lost, defeated and in despair.
I read somewhere she told a colleague that she couldn’t go back to the show, whatever the outcome.
How does she go on as a public figure. My heart aches for her.
Is it just my imagination, or does the local sheriff seem giddy with delight lately with every new interview, as though he’s got access to secret info?
I can feel the anxiety when I think of how easily something like this can happen to anyone, anytime, anywhere. My dear sweet Mom loved to go off on her own for quiet walks and she was pretty mobile until she passed away well into her mid nineties. It’s a sad world that we are living in when you have to analyze every little choice you make simply for the sake of safety and well being. It’s hard enough for people to deal with the process of aging, but what sadness when little pleasures are taken away one by one for the elderly. Thinking about this situation for this family is unimaginable & unbearable. Pray for them, pray hard. And if you are fortunate enough to still have your Mom, hug her extra tight today.

I live in a small town south of Tucson and I am so glad that I do not live in that county. Our sheriff is amazing and so efficient. It seems that this sheriff has been on a recall ballot before, because of his incompetence and somehow, he remained in office. I don’t care what he says, he definitely has cut out the FBI and has insisted in sending out the gloves to a private lab in Florida, rather than turning them over to the FBI, with much better equipment. I feel so bad for the Guthrie family. I go between getting annoyed with all the coverage with nothing new to say, and wondering (not really) how a kidnapped mother of any other citizen would be played out. But, for many reasons, I remain glad that I do not live in Tucson.
