QVC Live Discussion (Part 2)

I saw that and kept pausing the screen to look closer - is the heel really coming out of the arch of the shoe ? Looked stupid

Those boots look weird, tight, and uncomfortable! Not a fan of extreme pointed toes either. But they get attention!

QVC programming this weekend is pretty lackluster. I’m seeing absolutely nothing appealing. Especially in this economy, there needs to be more of an array of moderately priced items that aren’t in any one category.

I had to go to pick up a prescription at Walmart and was trying to decide which day would be less insane - today or tomorrow. I decided to drive by and look at the parking lot and there were loads of spaces to park. So, I went in and I was the only person in the pharmacy line. The rest of the store was not crazy, although there were, of course, some people doing their holiday shopping. After I got the pills, I checked the lines at the check-out and they weren’t bad at all. I picked up some ice cream and cookies (always important), and got a self-check station within about 2 minutes. Back out to my car and the whole trip took less than 10 minutes. I feel worried for the economy, but yay for me!!!

Latest statistics this morning from the National Retail Federation show record online shopping Friday: $11.8 billion, a 9% increase over last year. I think that’s a remarkable number!

I don’t think store traffic indicates consumer behavior these days.

I haven’t gone into a real department store in a long time. Virtually everything I buy is online.

Now that JoAnn Fabrics closed, I am left with one kind of a ā€œwarehouseā€ looking fabric store and two really pricey ones in Minneapolis/St Paul. Shopping for fabric online can be done, but I’d rather shop in person. The same with embroidery and yarn supplies. Most of my clothing/skin care/makeup gets purchased online. And I have no problem buying books online, but I really love browsing in a nice bookstore.

Another reason I loathe going into a store are the things that are locked up! I refuse to purchase anything under lock and key.

My local small grocery store has all laundry products in locked cages. No sale! I now order large supplies from Amazon.

I understand that shoplifting is an issue, but I resent being treated like a potential thief!

Who’s going to sneak out with the huge container of Tide!

That would bug me too, @Johnnystar56 .

I went out for a bit yesterday, to two small stores. I do enjoy looking at pretty Christmas decor. I bought some wipeable placemats with a pretty evergreen tree design — nice for all winter, some ā€œ Cream of Lutefiskā€ Swedish dishcloths (a MN funny; stocking stuffers), and a half-price ornament. I don’t need any ornaments, but this was a cute little mouse.

I enjoyed that. Then I went to a gift shop that had too many people in it and I got peopled out. Went home.

Some days I like to be in a store and be able to feel fabrics, etc. Have had some online purchase disappointments recently.

We were driving back from Thanksgiving yesterday and the freeway (in the opposite direction, thankfully) was at a dead stop for probably 3+ miles. Everyone was going to the outlet malls and the parking lot was so full, we saw people parking at other businesses a 30 minute walk away. I’ve never been more thankful to have family that just want cash. An easy gift for all, they can catch up on bills, go out to dinner, put it towards a new TV. I was shocked to see all those people shopping in this economy.

(I’m talking about the adults, I still order the kids presents online after asking their parents! Remember the Christmas episode of Roseanne where Dan bought DJ a video game system, but the grandma one upped him? Never want that situation!)

:christmas_tree: :christmas_tree: :christmas_tree: We did some limited shopping locally on this ā€œSupport Small Business Saturdayā€ visited some of the local Christmas Markets in the Park, and a few local shops, had lunch at a local restaurant, then finished the day off at our favorite local bakery to purchase a lemon pie to celebrate National Lemon Cream Pie Day. Went with our kids who are home visiting, my sister and my sister-n-law. We don’t get a chance to all get together as often as we would like to, so it was an exceptional day. And the Great Lakes Snowstorm that was supposed to hammer our area miraculously blew right over us, and we ended up with a mere three inches … Great Day & And Great Thanksgiving. Hope everyone found something enjoyable this weekend, even if it was simply quiet time and fond memories. :love_letter:

We went thrifting on Black Friday . Salvation Army had their own black Friday sale. I found a pretty set of vintage Christmas highball glasses for 99cents for a set of 4. I also found some new Clark’s ballet flats for $2.50.

I’ve been having my favorite Dutch apple pie from the local pie house. You will not believe the price of one pie at this place is now $34. Insane when they used to be $14.99 not too long ago.

I love those glasses!

Yum on the pie. Baked goods really have gone up in price but good to support local.

I was being sarcastic… wouldn’t have surprised me though

I’ll admit that I don’t mind today’s TSV and actually bought one when Pat presented it.
