QVC is apparently still hiring hosts!?
Kinda crazy to be still hiring host at this time. Especially, when they have a full roster. Heck! There are some host who barely get any hours and if they do they have to work the lates shite till 2:00am. Also, they rarely hire any, um, straight guys. I think Rick is the last man standing, LOL!!!. Heâll be there till the end though. I keep hearing about Chapter 11 but maybe they know something we donât.
Does it matter that they rarely hire âstraightâ guys? WTF
I do have to wonder who would apply for and accept a
job with QVC right now. And why are they hiring more hosts when, as pointed out, there are hosts who barely get any hours now and some of those people never work other than overnights?
I suspect that they tend to hire more women for lots of reasons- âshoppingâ as an activity is largely considered to be a female thing (so female hosts are one of the gang), half (or more) of what they sell on-air is fashion/cosmetics/haircare/womenâs jewelry so maybe women are considered more suited to those sales, AND maybe the bulk of those who apply for those jobs are women. Since it would be illegal to ask job applicants about their sexual orientation, itâs unlikely that QVC is screening that way.
But I have to agree with the sentiment that why does it matter if most of the male hosts at QVC are straight or not? There are a few current female hosts (and models) who are gay. It doesnât seem to have anything to do with how they perform at their jobs. And none of us are looking at them as potential partners, so they just need to do their jobs.
I read on the Q forum that new host Tori will be what they are calling âhybrid.â Meaning that she will spend a great deal of time on Tik-Tok and some broadcasting.
Her background is social media and podcasting.
If QVC survives in some form, I think it indicates a scale back of traditional TV and focus on small screen.
When companies file for Chapter 11 is it years before they officially close or is it immediate? The last I heard of it for QVC that there were just rumors because nothing was ever officially announced. Just curious.
They havenât filed (yet).
Chapter 11 isnât âgoing out of business.â Itâs a restructuring (that is, reduction) of debts. Business continues during the process under the oversight of Bankruptcy Court.
Depending upon the complexity of the debt, the process could take a few months or a year or longer.
Many companies continue to operate afterwards; for example, all of the airlines have filed at least once.
If they still canât make it, even with less debt, they go Chapter 7, which is a shutdown and liquidation of assets.
Iâm wondering about this. If QVC is looking at scaling back from large scale TV selling to more social media/influencer type, could that be the reason they are trying these new âdressing roomâ shows. To see how sales go in the small space, no OAPs, no models, just the host âgetting realâ with the viewers. That setup favors someone like Shawn, but not David. Shawn does frantic, in your face, spontaneous type stuff. David prefers his structure. Fashion and beauty lend itself to that presentation style. Food and kitchen stuff not so much. I could see Shawn continuing on with the Q in that model. What other current hosts would ? I donât follow Tik Tok so I donât know if Q has people doing this already.
I agree completely!
The small dressing room concept, such as beauty influencers do, works for certain product categories and certain hosts.
Iâve watched a number of QVC Tik-Tok presentations. They are intimate, small screen oriented and, as you say, suited for beauty, skincare, accessoriesâŚ..prepared food also works, like packaged snacks and sweetsâŚ..no cooking!
Itâs a disaster for Diva. He needs a big set and lots of room to strut and dance. If this is the future of QVC, there is no room for him.
Iâve seen a tiktok of the diva hawking stuff, it was a disaster⌠he had to have another person in the room with him to âassistâ albeit off camera of course.
Such a shame that some are still offended by the mere presence of gay people! With a comment like that, I assume you live in rural North Dakota and view gay people as court jesters.
Do you throw rocks at your TV whenever theyâre on?
I have, since inception, viewed this space as a homophobia-free zone and I hope it stays that way!
Thereâs a difference between joking and having fun and real intolerance.
Diva also needs many colors of each item, already nicely displayed, for him to double tap and count down.
One should never assume. I live 25 minutes (Philadelphia burbs) from QVC. So again youâre wrong. I donât recall saying anything about court jesters. So again youâre wrong. Finally, I donât throw rocks when âthey are onâ. I think it might be you who has the issues.
Iâve been watching QVC from Day 1 and before that when it was CVN. Iâm neither bothered or care if they hire gay people at QVC. If I did, I wouldnât be able to watch any news, tv, movies or work with them. I just think itâs funny that David Venableâs forum is called Diva. And, no, I didnât give the forum that name.
Sweetie, QVC was never CVN.
Iâm sorry if I contributed to furthering this dispute. It sounded to me like you were expressing your opinion that there is a problem with gay male hosts at QVC. Maybe thatâs not what you meant. I just thought that I needed to say that the sexual orientation of the hosts is immaterial. I apologize for anything that I may have said to turn this into a negative situation.
Hopefully i donât offend anybody but why would anybody pay $170 for a tea kettle, even if it is MacKenzie-Childs. 2 mugs included. I balked having to pay $20 for my tea kettle at Home Goods.
But stillâŚ. WHY are most of the male hosts gay? Just seems odd to me ! ! ! !
All of their stuff is overpriced. And to me, it all looks alike.
