I watched some of that presentation and when I noticed the price, I was actually stunned. I truly don’t know how they get away with it. I remember a few years ago many of us contributing to the previous website were remarking about how the Susan Graver clothing line specifically had gotten to be continually more expensive, and that the tops were now $40 and $45, and we thought that was outrageous. When I look at what has happened in the last two years (and don’t kid yourself, this price increase nonsense started well before the beginning of 2025) it’s just unbelievable.
Instead of using business acumen and best practices (and basically an overhaul of what they have been doing) to try to right this ship, they’re laying it all on the backs of their customers through price increases. It won’t work, everybody knows it isn’t going to work, except those in the C-Suite in Philadelphia.
I really don’t wish people to lose their jobs, I really don’t. How many jobs are there for somebody who has been selling imported crap for 20 years on television? Go back to local TV news? Many have aged out of that game. They can’t all be influencers, there’s not gonna be another shopping channel to move to…it’ll be interesting. I’m ignorant about TV production, so not sure how easily the behind-the-camera skills would transfer, but it could be that those folks would have an easier time of it.
On the other hand, HSN is having a craft day which is always so popular. QVC really made a mistake getting rid of that. I even skipped work a couple of times to watch when they had crafts on and ordered a lot.
I am not sure who the hosts on HSN are, but they are dancing and screaming and being idiots, so it must be something in the QVC water. Also, this isn’t a good sign - they only ordered 3500 of the TSV and were down to a couple hundred, and already sold out of many things that they brought in a really low number. What’s with that???
Last night I was flipping channels and the mouth was on… they had a caller who wanted to know why the mouth could say she peed on a friends couch but couldn’t say the word nipple when describing where the bust seams started. Then the caller broke out in song exclaiming “good ole waffletop waffletop qvc, waffletop qvc” I almost vomited and realized that no matter how much we hate and snark they sure do have their minion followers and buyers.
I agree about that flimsy Graver t shirt that was supposedly on sale at over $60. It’s outrageous. The clothes at QVC are cheaply made in China and incredibly boring. Add to the mess that the narcissist show hosts are lying about the sizes they are wearing. My hobby is shopping the discount stores. A t shirt like the Graver one could be found at Ross for $14. I once came across a Graver liquid knit top at Ross for $9. It was a size xl and it was so oversized it could easily have been a 2X. It was very thin and a garish red color. These plastic knits of hers are hideous and she needs to retire. 35 years of ripping people off and amassing millions of dollars while adding to the destruction of the planet is horrendous.
Couldn’t help but notice that Amazon has been giving a lot of time and attention to the Philosophy product line over the past month … sign of the times?
And Graver … Those clothes are very reminiscent of the stuff my great aunt was wearing back in the seventies. It was ugly then, and even uglier now. In fact, I think it’s entirely possible that my great aunt was the real creator of liquid knit.
I want a dollar for every time Susan Graver says ‘again’, Bitsy Jennings says ‘sort of’, Kim Gravel says ‘boutique chic’ and Larry Zarian says ‘effortless’, for a six month period. Afterwards, I’m purchasing a winter home in Jupiter, Florida.
I know there are other people and additional examples of verbal vomit that I could use, but I don’t wanna be greedy.
Pat and Gravuh are on now selling a Lyocel t-shirt “on sale’ for $65.98 (from $73). Apparently the braided fabric neckline is the focal point and therefore “worth every bit”. Very boxy, a “pillowcase” hem at the bottom and sleeves, doesn’t grab you, and super, super high quality! It looks like a maternity top.
I’ve reached the point that if I see a garment on their website under $60 bucks I immediately go to the reviews to see what’s wrong with it. I’ll be saving quite a bit of money going forward, 'cause I won’t be shopping at QVC. For me, it’s a boycott mentality now.
