I don’t understand this jacket design. Long length with a zipper. Very wide, shorter sleeves that would let the cold in. This garment is totally impractical. And I agree–it does look like a bathrobe. Just not one I would ever buy.
Mr. Booney and I spent the afternoon at the Philadelphia Flower Show. It was all so beautiful (I can post some pics in another thread if anyone is interested), but here’s something interesting. We ran across QVC getting ready to do a live feed from the show! Steve Doss was the host and Roxanne DePalma was the OAP. We couldn’t get anywhere near them because they had the area roped off, and there were production people all over the place. But I managed to get a couple of pics of Steve and Roxanne.
Then in another part of the show, we stumbled upon a QVC “exhibit,” if you can call it that. It was a tacky display loaded with QVC products (like a pink Le Creuset pot, and a Mackenzie Childs watering can). Each item had a card next to it with a QR code you could scan with your phone to buy it.
A QVC employee was roaming around the exhibit with a basket of something, so I went up to her and asked if she was giving something away. She handed me this card with a half-dollar sized thing that has flower seeds in it which you can plant. Seriously? On the back, it did give a code for free shipping on a single item between now and 3/9, but you have to use a QCard. The code is FLOWERSHOW, if anyone is interested.
Interesting! I love how they’re giving Steve these opportunities.
That display is… something… ![]()
That seed packet is stupid, so on brand for QVC!
Why waste money on this? I would have tossed it after seeing the QCard requirement. They must be making a lot on QCards to push them like this. Would be interested to know the profit on interest, late payments, etc. Hmm…
What a fun day! Looks like you had a good time. I haven’t done the flower show since before Covid.
Love Steve Doss!
I really like Steve too, and he has such a great smile. It’s amazing how much makeup they have to wear, though, just to look “natural” on TV. Both he and Roxanne were loaded with makeup!
The flower show is lovely. The theme this year is “Gardens of Tomorrow,” so there are some futuristic-looking exhibits, but lots of beautiful color. One exhibitor created a huge indoor meadow that’s just spectacular.
Oh wow, that sounds beautiful! If you wanted to post photos, please do!
When last I worked retail, during the LUR (long unfortunate recession), we were prodded daily to push for credit card sign-ups. They incentivized us monetarily for each one we did, and I had a co-worker who excelled in it, giving no phux about the other duties of the job.
She probably doubled and sometimes tripled her hourly wage. Mgmnt explained that statistically, card holders spent 20% more than non holders. I think that’s why the push, as QRate itself probably doesn’t issue the credit, it would be the underwriting bank. I don’t have a Q card, so I can’t say for sure, but…
The Q card, and the HSN card and the ShopHQ cards are all through Synchrony bank. But, then haven’t made a penny from me - I pay off the balances each month. But, sometimes you get free shipping or a discount with their card.
Besides the overall poor quality, this is why I don’t shop at Kohls! Not sure if that’s where you worked, but they really push the Kohls Card at checkout. I may have snapped on an employee who wouldn’t take no for an answer. No means no! They shouldn’t ask more than once. I’m surprised corporate encourages such aggressive sales techniques. She stopped the transaction and wouldn’t let me pay before listing all the supposed benefits. In hindsight, I should have just left everything and walked out.
It is annoying, and I hated doing it. Made me feel icky. I mean, it was a recession ffs. It wasn’t enough that people were there buying stupid Christmas gifts they probably couldn’t afford?
No, it wasn’t Kohl’s, it was a Bon Ton franchise. A neighbor told me today that she heard that Kohl’s might close, here locally I’m assuming she meant, and that Macy’s is in trouble. Seems like Macy’s has been in trouble for years so I don’t know.
Yes! I think they may own some of the stores’ real estate. Not sure why they’d keep them open otherwise. All the Macy’s around me are attached to dead or dying malls and there are never more than a dozen cars in the parking lot.
We recently lost a Kohls as well. My friend in another state is a manager at Kohls, and she says sales are way down and they’ve become more of an Amazon return center. She told me the customer service desk has basically become an Amazon return desk. Says people walk in with stacks of returns, and leave without even browsing.
Our Kohls is closing also.
I haven’t to a Macys store for years. The last time I was in my local Macys it looked like a third world flea market. The dressing rooms were awful. I left and never returned.
This may sound strange, but I’m almost afraid of department stores today. They’re so big and empty, you never know who could be lurking around, and employees are few and far between. The department stores by me have consolidated their merchandise, so there are big empty spaces and even entire empty floors! Creepy!
Another reason I love shopping online, you can try everything on in the privacy of your home and you don’t feel rushed! ![]()
Years ago I started only entering a store from the parking lot. I never actually walk inside the mall. Too many strange people hanging around. Since I retired I don’t need a variety of clothing. I shop on line now, also.
I’m trying to enjoy the Basso show, but it’s hard with Skunky hosting. She keeps leaving the set to change. He has some pretty things, but she makes everything look dumpy. When she puts on a different top, she tends to leave her hair tucked in the collar in the back. Looks sloppy and dumpy.
In summary, brick & mortar is dying on the vine, which we’ve known for a while. The debate is for another place and time as to why, but it certainly was accelerated by Covid and wild upticks in wage expectations. As for me, I’m not interested at this point in my life, to shlep myself to your store, have to paw through a poorly merchandised, sloppily maintained sales floor, only to be met with a surly, ambivalent cashier who can’t even choke out a “thanks” at the end of the experience. I can be insulted at home with far less effort.

What’s really sad? With all of that
, QRate still can’t eek out a profitable quarter. ![]()
The last time I was in Kohls, it was much better maintained. I do like to feel the items and not have to deal with the hassle of returning online, but if the store is a mess, that’s a turn-off.
