Did he quote Hepburn correctly? He doesn’t know the correct words to “Little Brown Church in the Vale” when he tries to sing it on air. He thinks he does, but he is wrong.
I don’t think that Nancy Yoon is long for the TV shopping world.
Since returning from her extended leave she’s been exclusively on Q2 and the Q1 1-3 am hours.
She started with Steve and Rosina, both of whom have moved on to real Q1 shows and hours.
I saw someone write that she had a leave of some sort. She was sort of emotional a couple times. Sounds concerning if you ask me. Hope all is well with her.
Chaz Dean tsv tomorrow. Gawd. ![]()
Darn it. Haven’t seen him in a long time. Thought he was finally gone.
Edit - N Yoon is on the program guide tomorrow. What she actually said was that it would be her last Thurs. D&Co “for a while”, and then she got a little emo about it, heart-handing all ‘her people’ etc. I don’t know what to make of her on an avg day, so I couldn’t guess what any of it means.
I’m listening to The QVC Group earnings call.
Not good. Unsustainable TV cable viewership decline and revenue loss. Investment in streaming and social media, not broadcasting.
Focus on operating expense control and headcount reduction specifically mentioned.
Doesn’t sound good for anyone.
hmm
will be interesting

I hate to see anybody lose their job. Anybody. Cutting payroll is always the low-hanging fruit, but def seems necessary here. They need to offer some serious early exit packages to those at the top of the pile with the most seniority, costing them the most in benefits, get them out of there.Utilize the best that remains from both QVC and HSN, get rid of that QVC 3, put HSN programming on QVC 2 and/or just mix and match them between those two channels, if they even need a second channel at this point. I don’t know how much of their core audience AKA older women, will utilize social media to shop. I think they need to keep a cable channel for awhile longer.
Without the benefit of knowing the numbers on each individual design line, I’m gonna just go out on a limb and say they need to heavily consolidate product lines. They’ve got too many product lines offering the same crap.
We snarkers have wondered for years why they introduced the idea of having OAPs for every presentation. Maybe they need to consider going back to the old school way of having the host actually offer and demonstrate the products. Would eliminate a whole bunch of people right there. (At least the ones that QVC pays, I don’t know how many are paid by the vendor.
I definitely got the impression that programming and product will be shared.
One chief merchandising officer can order tons of Skechers, Clarks and Dysons at a great price!
Expect the hosts to be merged too!
Management always throws a lot of bull…
Remember a few years ago how everyone was talking about “The Graying of America”?
Social Media is for followers and mostly digital content. You know the type of “content” I mean. Look at all the platforms. That’s the whole goal, nothing more, i.e. find the Sheeple for your niche and exploit them. Older people don’t care about that crap… As well they shouldn’t. And young people will be old people, soon enough… They just never believe it.
Old Saying: As you are, I once was. As I am, so you will be.
I can tell you, the problem, by and large, is the one thing they will never discuss: Management itself. They consolidated 2 operations which were very profitable using the excuse of wanting to compete with Amazon, yada, yada, yada…
I thought at the time that this was nonsense. I never saw them in the same market. Amazon is where I go when I know with certainty what I want, i.e. common products that are used/consumed.
Home Shopping should be for new/novel products or special items that can’t be purchased readily anywhere else, i.e. exclusives.
Overleveraged, overbought, etc.
As usual, this is just management pointing to “the newest thing” and spouting buzzwords about being “on it” without really thinking deeply about the issues. Social media isn’t a panacea for QVC’s ills (largely self-inflicted, imo…) and not the solution in the long run.
This is just management justifying whatever actions they take in the future and mostly a bunch of bull chips and CYA for the failed actions they took in the past leading up to this.
Of course the call was going to be all negative… Management always blames the Serfs. Always.
Is Dennis Basso stealing his “Divine” Design Inspirations from QVC’s own Miss Valerie Parr Hill?
Hope he’s sourcing his goods from a different import house!
Basso is trying to be the next Val. He’s selling porcelain bunnies and illuminated lanterns!!
I’m enjoying Basso’s show tonight. Something new and different for a change!
Amy’s walking, or should I say shuffling around that set like she’s in pain, and those shoes are sliding all around like they’re begging for a “slip & fall” …
I bought a Basso lantern and I like it a lot.
If you Google “QVC earnings reports” you will see it isn’t quite the Doom and Gloom that management likes to portray.
They are making money.
Just not as much as they used to… QVC revenue is in the billions with a “B”. Frankly, I’d like to have that problem.
Let me illustrate it like this.
What Management thinks they are:
What Management actually is:
