@UglyBetty I heard about this newly opened site after TwoP closed. What a delight it was to find it. Thank you for bringing it into being and keeping it alive. I’m another who had no idea there was so much cost involved. Not to mention the headache of dealing with people. Whatever happens, you are/were greatly appreciated.

I am a lurker, have enjoyed this site tremendously over the past several months while dealing with health issues. Thank you for initiating the site. This site was created to continue the community we had on PT, just without all the insane rules. From the very beginning, this site has been self-funded. Operating a site like this is not cheap. I have spent many thousands keeping this going, and it hasn’t even been a year.
This was never intended to be an income source, but events over the last few months have made this feel like a part time job where I’m paying for the “privilege” of working with users who DM me with childish complaints or downright harassment. Despite my efforts, several of these assholes have created multiple accounts and continue to harass me. This is no longer fun. I am quite literally paying to be miserable on a site that was intended to be a respite.
I understand there are other sites out there. Reddit was mentioned on another thread. QVC snark forums that are part of a larger umbrella are funded by the parent company’s ad revenue and are subject to more heavy handed moderation because of this. That’s what I wanted to avoid here.
I’m tired of playing babysitter for a bunch of demented 80yo who have never heard the word “NO” in their sad selfish lives; the type of dipshits who can’t accept differing opinions. I’m tired of being harassed. I’m tired of being used. And most of all, I’m tired of PAYING for all this.
Most of you have been great and I appreciate this community, but I don’t know if I can do this anymore.
I receive harassing messages regularly, am expected to play mediator for morons, AND I have to foot the bill? Would you want to be in that position?
I’ve thought about creating a fundraiser to keep this site going, but I know no one here would donate. Let’s just be real about that. People would pitch in $5 one time, thinking it’ll pay for a month of hosting, when it’s just a drop in the bucket.
I’ve thought about including ads, but that would lead to even more complaints via DM. “Why am I seeing ads for Viagra and Silver Singles? I’m OFFENDED!” Gee Susan, maybe ask your husband. Cookies exist outside the kitchen nowadays.
Not one single person on this site has ever inquired as to the funding. I doubt most people here understand the true costs of running a site like this. I’ve mentioned the monthly cost to one user in a pleasant DM exchange, but otherwise kept it private because this site was fun at that point.
Now that we’re mentioning and directing people to other sites, I feel less appreciated than ever. Like all of this was for nothing. My time, money, and emotional energy, all for nothing, not even fun.
I spoke to the hosting company and will make a final decision before the next bill is due in approximately three weeks.
If you want heavy handed moderation, by all means, join one of the other groups.
I don’t know what else to say without sounding like even more of a bitch, so will just leave it there.

@UglyBetty, I SO appreciate this forum, and your efforts to create and maintain it.
I also had NO idea the monetary costs involved. The crappy people costs, I had some idea. I am truly sorry these jerks have taken the joy out of this project for you. 
I think ads are totally fine. I can certainly visit multiple times per day to support ad revenue! 
Whatever else you need for support, please let us know. Don’t let it bottle up, life is stressful enough!

Let me add my voice to the chorus supporting ads on this site. As others have mentioned, ads are on almost every site, so it would make no difference to me to have them here if it means we can keep the snark going. After the shock of PT shutting down the Shopping Channels forum, you were so kind to start this site to give us a place to land. And what a refreshing new start this has been, without the heavy-handed moderation that became the norm at PT. Please let us know how we can further support you and this site so that we can continue to enjoy the snark and each other for a long time to come.

I am sad but also understanding what you are saying, @UglyBetty - people in general are insulting and yelling at and arguing with others out in the world; sad as I said but now that you have brought it up, I guess not surprised. I hope I have never offended you or anyone else on here. My policy has always been, if I find someone annoying, I stay away from them and just don’t read their stuff. I was surprised when you said people could hide a person’s comments. Seems counterintuitive to what we are doing but everyone hates too many people these days.
I will understand whatever direction you decide to go.
I thought the other site for QVC thread was to mention something here mentioned there without having to interact with any of the inane people there. Or be under QVC thumb. Whatever you decide, I am still totally grateful for all you have done and for the time it is/was here, it gave people a chance to interact. I never interacted on the primertv chat.
People, for goodness sake, why would anyone harass you. Humanity sucks sometimes.

I love your post and whatever configuration would work (sign in 2 times a day; no gifs or photos, only links, et al) whatever works along with ads, no worries. I just appreciate, @UglyBetty for being willing to try some other things before signing off. Though I will still understand that if it’s necessary at any point. Hugs to you both

This site has been a lifesaver for me. I have had so many laughs, so much fun and have met so many great posters.
I am all alone and I am going through some health issues now and I don’t get here as much as I would like to, and I had no idea it cost anything to run it.
I am all for ads if it will keep the Shopping Snark going.

Just getting caught up here. Thank you all for your kind and understanding responses. I appreciate your support and apologize for coming across like a lunatic in that first post. 
If this site goes dark at any point in the next week, that’s just maintenance for the ads. Should be a quick process and won’t affect any site functionality, but once the ads are live, please let me know about any issues!

You did NOT sound like a lunatic! You merely stated facts that the majority of us (me) never knew. I was mortified about the amount of time and money involved and am glad you chose ads. As for the babysitting aspect, that blows my mind. I refuse to deal with people like that in my “real” life. I’m in The Age of Possibility (don’t ‘cha know) and have been shedding the whiners, takers and emotional drainers over the last decade. No guilt and no apologies. I know you can’t prevent it in your capacity here. Hey, we can start a page for the tantrum-throwing cry babies here! (I’m kidding, of course). Thanks again for EVERYTHING!

Bring on the ads! They’re absolutely everywhere else in social media don’t think we have any reason to expect this to be different. And if it bothers anyone that much they’ll get an ad blocker.
As for problematic members, and I speak as the admin of my own very busy forum (unrelated to QVC), just ban them. Or give them one warning then ban them if they repeat the infraction. Life is too short.

The “Other Place” will give you a three day suspension just for rolling your eyeballs toward the back of your head. Their team of special investigators can easily recognize the sound, and will not hesitate to shame you.
