The Vera Bradley outlet has been on fire with their Snoopy collabs. I recently picked this cutie pie tote bag with a little purse charm.

Every fall season when I go into the drug store for a flu shot I pick up a snoopy item. This year Walgreens had some cute fall theme snoopy socks.

I’ve been collecting Diamonique or CZ jewelry in solid 14k yellow gold and found this preloved necklace on a second hand site.

can we talk about streaming services here
I had been thinking about canceling HUlu before the current situation , the Mr likes CNN
thoughts please
we were not watching much on Hulu and the price will b going up, so I cancelled

It’s way too expensive now to subscribe to multiple channels and now that I’m semi-retired I’ve had to cut back on streaming subscriptions. I dropped Hulu and Peacock because there were only a couple of shows on each channel I liked. I cut Disney+ too though i will sorely miss the Star Wars content there. I love football so cutting out NFL Sunday Ticket hurt deeply but I just can’t afford it anymore.

For me that leaves Netflix, Prime Video, AppleTV and Paramount+. I shop Amazon a lot so Prime stays, and I won’t drop Paramount because I need my Star Trek fix. I like many of the AppleTV original shows, and many shows from other channels seem to end up there so that’s a keeper. Still on the fence about Netflix, for now I’m sticking with it but it might have to go too.

I subscribe to Spotify too for music but am thinking of canceling. Anyone else have thoughts on Spotify subscriptions?

I’ve been reevaluating as well. Remember when we all thought streaming was the answer to high cable bills?

YouTube Premium Family Plan - $23 no ads - Not canceling because we both use it every day. Apart from general watching, I play white noise videos to sleep, and the cats love the live bird videos. It includes YouTube Music, so I cancelled Apple Music, but miss the hi fidelity audio and Apple’s larger music library. Apple is offering 3 months for the price of 1, so I may resubscribe.

HBO Max - $17 no ads - I love HBO’s documentaries and true crime miniseries, but none of the shows we watch are airing at the moment. Hacks is great. Righteous Gemstones recently ended, loved it. Somebody, Somewhere is very underrated, highly recommended. The movie library is great too, so we’ll keep HBO. (I wish there was a lower cost ad-free plan that excludes all the Discovery crap, although I do enjoy My 600 Lb Life from time to time…)

Peacock - $0 with ads, included in our home internet - I like the older Bravo shows, Days of Our Lives, The Office, 30 Rock, Law & Order. We used to pay for the ad-free version, but I don’t mind the ads, especially for ā€œfree.ā€ My only issue is they’ve enhanced Roseanne (the original series) using AI. The picture looks artificial, and they cut out a LOT of great scenes and jokes. I read the original cut is available on archive.org, but haven’t verified that myself.

Paramount+ - $0 with ads, included with Walmart+ - It’s ā€œfreeā€ so I won’t complain, but all I’ve watched is South Park. They also have Mob Wives if you thought Housewives was too tame. This is my guilty pleasure streaming service.

Hulu/Disney+ - $3 with ads, Black Friday deal from last year - I figured $3 is worth it for uncut Golden Girls episodes (they speed them up and cut lines for cable reruns) and the Simpsons. We’ve also watched a few classic Disney movies. Let’s just say, I wouldn’t pay more than $3.

Philo - $28 - This is a streaming service with cable channels, significantly cheaper than YouTube TV or Hulu Live. It doesn’t have any sports or news channels (which we don’t want) but has everything we need. I subscribed to watch a few new shows that weren’t streaming elsewhere, but it’s been great so far with the included DVR. Philo includes the AMC+ channel. Not sure what that really means, but fans of their shows seem to love this service for AMC+. They also have a free plan with TONS of channels, just not actual cable channels.

Amazon Prime Video - included with yearly membership - Mr. Betty insists on having Amazon for whatever reason. I’d never pay for Amazon. The streaming service is pretty bad, especially the interface. I only like the Bob Barker Price is Right channel, and I think you can get that free on Philo.

Wow, I didn’t realize we’re paying $71 for our streaming services! :face_with_peeking_eye: Still less than cable. With cable, we always had the top plan because they design the packages in such a scammy way, plus all the sports fees, DVR rentals, etc. At least now we only pay for what we want.

I’m getting in the habit of shuffling streaming services. We haven’t had Netflix in 2+ years, so I may pause HBO in the off-season and subscribe to Netflix for a month or two. Once my shows are over, I may downgrade Philo to the free plan and subscribe to Hallmark+ instead.

any of those have CNN?

Yes! HBO has CNN. It has a different schedule than the cable version, but the shows are the same. You need the $17 Standard or $21 Premium plan, both are ad-free.

They also have the same HBO channels you’d get on TV, so if you prefer channel surfing that’s an option. No way to record, but anything playing on the channels is available to stream.

Have you considered DirecTV streaming? They have new plans, one of which is news only. $40/month, and for another $10 you get some movie channels including TCM.

Does anyone know if the Hallmark+ app has improved? Specifically for Apple TV and iPad. I subscribed for a few months and had to cancel because the app was so unstable.

thanks for clarification on CNN.
direct tv might be good too

I like the golf channel, but the season is winding down now, so I could get the golf channel next year

I got a free Peacock subscription when I signed up for Walmart+. It is $100 a year, I think, but I get free delivery for most items, with no minimum, so it pays off for me. Can’t say I watch Peacock much, but it was free. The sports package is an add-on, however, if you want it.

You can change it to Paramount+. They just added Peacock and let you switch every few months.
