He’s only 60. Too young for Medicare. I remember an article in the New York Times many years ago, that he made more $$$ for QVC, than anyone. His salary alone probably keeps him hesitant to leave.

According to online info his annual salary is 500,000..he’s listed as the highest paid host on QVC..

I’ve been with QVC since the very first airing in 1986 and I have never once watched big Dave in all the years he’s been happy dancing. He and several others push my buttons, so fake. Look at how many followers he has on Facebook, he has his fans…morons.

Call me out-of-touch, but I didn’t even know that QVC existed until 1999, when some of my coworkers were oohing and aahing over their “fabulous buys”.

LOL, being a shopaholic since birth I was like a heat seeking missile when it came to online shopping. I even remember the JC Penney shopping channel.

The same old, tired stories were out in full force yesterday, and I only watched about an hour. Lock and Lock had their Xmas bags and bowls, and one bag had cardinals on it. Diva makes a big point of saying “when cardinals are near, angels appear” (which is actually wrong, should be “when cardinals appear, angels are near”…unless he sees angels). Then points his finger at Janine, the OAP, and in a very serious tone says “seeing a cardinal means two things, your loved one is ok and you’re ok.” TWO presentations later Temptations was on and sure enough they had a product with cardinals. I thought, oh not again. Sure enough the phrase about angels appearing…again backwards and then the finger pointing with everyone being ok. If repeating those overused gems of his wasn’t enough, he also added the old story about the QVC employee who saw a cardinal and Diva told her it was her husband and they both started crying. Ughh!
Big Dave also threw in the candy flicking story when he saw a Lock and Lock filled with Lindt truffles. He has really lost it.

So–those of us who do not live around red cardinals are out of luck in the angel department? Any time I see an upcoming item with cardinals on the Q I change the channel quickly so I don’t have to endure the hype. I’m sure the dish with the red bird chips just as easily as the others.

I truly believe that he has some social awareness issues that probably were never diagnosed or addressed with therapies. He’s done very well for himself in spite of it. It’s pretty obvious that he has created a script of comments, gestures, and interactions that have helped him to be (feel?) less awkward and less uncomfortable around others. It must be exhausting to have to do that for 30 years in front of a camera, much less in his private life.

My very Italian Grandpa Giuseppe had this style of doors, made from wood, on the outside of the house that led to a large brick cold storage room in his basement. It was filled with glass jars of homemade canned goods fresh from his garden, and an abundance of homemade traditional Italian red wine. But sadly, my Grandpa did not possess the skills to craft fine Italian footwear by hand, but we still loved him and his homemade sauce anyway.

He wasn’t always this way. He was quite “normal” and a pretty good host back in the day. This change has seemed to have occurred in the last 5 or so years.

It doesn’t mean that he didn’t have something going on for years. Maybe he used to be better at hiding it. Who really knows? I do think that he seems like he isn’t happy doing this job any longer - and it shows.
